Nadia's New Memoir is Coming This Fall
We are thrilled to announce that Nadia Murad’s new memoir, I Choose My Beginning: A Story of Courage and Activism, will be published on September 15, 2026 by Summit Books, with a foreword by Gloria Steinem.
For years, Nadia has carried two parallel identities — the global activist standing before world leaders to demand justice for survivors of sexual violence and communities affected by conflict, and the woman quietly rebuilding her personal life. In this new memoir, she brings those two selves into one honest and courageous account.
“I Choose My Beginning is about reclaiming my voice and deciding how my life moves forward — not only how it was torn apart,” Nadia says.
Following her 2017 debut, The Last Girl, this book charts the decade since — from her work reshaping international frameworks on conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), to finding friendship, love, and moments of ordinary happiness. It is a story about what justice actually looks like in a life, and what it takes to keep choosing it.
The courage and determination at the core of this book reflect the spirit that drives the work of Nadia’s Initiative every day, and we could not be more proud to see Nadia share it with the world.
Amal Clooney, who has partnered with Nadia for years to pursue justice for Yazidi survivors, expressed her support for the book, saying, “Nadia is a fierce warrior for justice and a beautiful human being I feel privileged to know. She will inspire women for generations.”
