Nadia Participates in the World Meeting on Human Fraternity at the Vatican

This past weekend, Nadia joined global changemakers at the Vatican for the World Meeting on Human Fraternity, a gathering inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Fratelli Tutti. The purpose of the gathering is to unite individuals of goodwill – across faiths, beliefs, and civil society – to foster a global movement for fraternity and peace while working collectively to address shared challenges.

During the meeting, Nadia met Pope Leo XIV, participated in the Human Constitutional Assembly alongside fellow Nobel laureates and thought leaders, and spoke at a UN Roundtable on Global Food Security. The roundtable, “Allied Intelligences: Fraternity, Food, Technology and Renewal for a New Social Pact,” explored how to reimagine agri-food systems in alignment with Laudato sì and Fratelli Tutti, integrating natural, artificial, spiritual, and collective intelligence to protect our common home and build a more connected world.

On Saturday, during a concert held at the Vatican, Nadia spoke to the heart of what the gathering represented – our shared responsibility to make choices that uphold dignity and promote peace:

“To be human is to recognize the dignity of every person,” she said. “What happened to my community at the hands of ISIS proves that hatred and violence are choices, and they continue wherever the world looks away. But we can choose differently. We can choose freedom. Freedom means standing for justice. Freedom means ensuring every human being lives with dignity. Together, we can ensure religion is never used as a weapon. We can invest in education that teaches empathy and compassion. We can stand with survivors of rape and rebuild communities. We can take responsibility beyond borders and faiths. We can provide the resources to heal.”

Nadia’s words carried the urgency and clarity of lived experience, reminding us that fraternity and peace are not abstract notions – they come as a result of the choices we make. In Sinjar and across the globe, communities devastated by violence and injustice can be rebuilt through solidarity, compassion, and shared action.
