Nadia Murad Joins G7 Engagement Groups in Paris

Last week, ahead of the G7 Summit in Évian, France, Nadia Murad had the opportunity to join President Emmanuel Macron and representatives of the G7 engagement groups for an event at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The event brought together civil society leaders, advocates, and experts who have spent the past year developing recommendations for the Summit — including on gender equality, the resilience of democracies, and the defense of fundamental freedoms.

Nadia's message was clear: amid a global backlash against women's rights, gender equality and the fight to end conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) must remain on the world's agenda. Her presence reflected a principle at the heart of Nadia's Initiative — survivor leadership in action, with survivors helping shape the agendas that affect their lives.

"Real progress starts when lived experience shapes policy — and when commitments turn into action," Nadia said.

In his closing remarks, President Macron honored Nadia and the work of Nadia's Initiative, recognizing their contributions in advancing the rights of oppressed women in war zones. He described this cause as a priority of French diplomacy, affirming that France will continue to stand behind Nadia's work. He also conveyed France's admiration for her, and for all those who continue the fight on this fundamental issue.

This engagement underscored that no one carries the fight for gender equality and women's rights alone. Nadia's Initiative remains committed to standing alongside survivors, governments, and partners worldwide to end the use of sexual violence in conflict.
