Paving the Way for Reparations for Yazidi Survivors

Female survivors of ISIS captivity and sexual violence from the Yazidi and other minority communities suffered great harm under ISIS.

To heal, they need reparations and dedicated social welfare services that address the trauma they have experienced. The Yazidi Survivors Law, passed in March 2021, established the General Directorate of Survivors Affairs (GDSA), which is tasked with providing reparations to survivors in Iraq and the diaspora.

Reparations enable survivors to rebuild their lives by reintegrating into their communities, re-establishing their livelihoods, and accessing critical civil services.

Through a new project to improve the GDSA’s ability to provide reparations in an expedited manner, USAID and Nadia’s Initiative are supporting the new Sinjar branch of the GDSA with office furniture, supplies, and equipment.
