Opening of the Sinjar French Medical Center

The Sinjar French Medical Center (SFMC) is now open to the public.

What began years ago as a promise made by President Emmanuel Macron to Nadia Murad and the people of Sinjar is now a reality. Designed to expand access to healthcare — especially for women, children, and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) — this hospital will deliver essential services to families who have endured immense hardship and deserve quality care close to home.

Built through sustained partnership, technical expertise, and determined collaboration, the SFMC is the first facility of its kind in the region. It stands ready to serve more than 250,000 people across Sinjar and surrounding areas.

The SFMC represents a long-term investment in the health, dignity, and stability of a community rebuilding after genocide — and a future where healthcare is treated as a right, not a privilege.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Crisis and Support Centre (CDCS) of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and to the European Union (MADAD) for their support. We also thank La Chaîne de l’Espoir, the project’s lead implementer, for working alongside Nadia’s Initiative and the Iraqi Ministry of Health to strengthen healthcare access in Sinjar.
