Nasra and her family fled to displacement camps to escape ISIS in 2014. While internally displaced in an IDP camp, Nasra and her younger siblings had limited access to basic services, particularly healthcare and education.

When Nadia’s Initiative began reopening schools and clinics in Sinjar, Nasra and her siblings decided to brave the return home. To them, the opportunity to learn outweighed the fact that a large portion of their village still lay in ruins.

“My sisters and brothers are studying at primary and secondary schools, which were rehabilitated by NGOs, despite the devastation in my village. Al Qahtaniya secondary school, which Dorcas and Nadia’s Initiative rehabilitated, will have a significant and helpful impact on students," Nasra says.

Nadia’s Initiative rehabilitated Al Qahtaniya High School and added a new library to address Sinjar’s gap in secondary education. Currently, over 130 students, including Nasra’s siblings are attending the school.

“We appreciate Dorcas and Nadia’s Initiative’s support to our community. Hopefully, they can support more villages and families in Sinjar, since we need more basic services like WASH projects," adds Nasra.
