Nadia's Initiative and USAID Support North Sinjar Electricity Directorate

ISIS systematically looted government entities across Sinjar during its occupation of the Yazidi homeland. As a result, the North Sinjar Electricity Department was left with one crane to serve over 14,000 houses. The department could not keep pace with the demand for maintenance of repairs, jeopardizing the community’s ability to return to Sinjar and live with the vital basic service of electricity.

Nadia’s Initiative and USAID, in partnership with Jelan Organization for Care and Rehabilitation (JOCR), are equipping the al-Shamal Electricity Distribution Department with trucks and equipment to eliminate this service gap and help re-connect homes of returnees to the electricity network.
