Nadia's Initiative and USAID Beneficiaries of Wardiya Primary School Illustrate Project's Impact

Before the restoration and rehabilitation of Waridya Primary School, students in the village had to travel approximately 15 kilometers to attend school in Sinjar City. Those whose families could not afford the cost of transportation were unable to attend school. The 430 students who traveled the long distance often faced obstacles and threats to their safety.

Wardiya students told Nadia’s Initiative, “We can go to the school in the village in less time and with less costs. We no longer need to travel those distances to reach the school in the city center.”

The rehabilitation of Wardiya Primary School also encouraged several displaced Yazidi families to return to their areas of origin, which has helped bolster the schools attendees, as well as its teaching staff. The director of Wardiya Primary School stated, "Now we have 26 teaching staff who have returned to the village and are continuing their shifts in the village school.”
