Nadia Murad Meets with Dutch and Belgian Prime Ministers

Last week, Nadia met with Belgium PM Alexander DeCroo and Dutch PM Mark Rutte to discuss several pressing issues: sustainable solutions to supporting Yazidi returnees and those still displaced and the critical need for prevention and accountability for #CRSV survivors globally.

At Nadia's Initiative, we believe that there are long-term, sustainable solutions within reach in Sinjar. However, political disputes prevent Yazidis from returning home and recovering from the trauma of genocide, sexual violence, and protracted displacement.

These sustainable solutions include 1) Creating an environment where the community can return home by stabilizing security and local governance in Sinjar or 2) Opening pathways to asylum for Yazidis to be able to find a safe and dignified life elsewhere.

The protracted displacement in the aftermath of genocide is keeping the Yazidis in a cycle of marginalization and underrepresentation, thus preventing their recovery. IDP camps are meant to be temporary solutions to conflict and it is inhumane to keep survivors in these conditions.
